The best wines of the year, made from xarel·lo grapes from old vines, are the foundation of Manuel Raventós Negra 2013, one of the most special sparkling wines from Raventós i Blanc. Despite leaving the D.O. Cava in 2012, the winery founded in 1982 by Josep María Raventós i Blanc and, after his passing, led by his son Manuel Raventós Negra, continues to be one of the benchmark Spanish wineries for this type of high-quality wines.
Manuel Raventós Negra 2013 belongs to the most exclusive collection of the winery. Its general director himself poured all his passion and expertise into carefully selecting the finest and most refined wines of xarel·lo, made from that year's harvest, which, after a meticulous blend, underwent 72 months of aging on lees. After this long aging process, a warm and Mediterranean sparkling wine is revealed in the glass, with moderate acidity and very well-integrated bubbles.
With a vibrant deep golden color.
On the nose, toasted and buttery aromas prevail.
Tense on the palate, it stands out for its freshness, good acidity, and a wonderful structure provided by its long aging on the lees. Silky, enveloping passage with a persistent and bitter finish.
Josep María Raventos i Blanc has left an indelible mark on the world of Catalan wine. Not only was he one of the key figures behind the unstoppable rise of Codorníu – he left the company in 1982 – he was also the mayor of Sant Sadurní d'Anoia and president of the CRDO Cava. In March 1986, barely a week after founding the winery that bears his name, a heart attack ended the life of Josep María during a trip to New Zealand.
The estate where the winery is located spans 90 hectares and has belonged to the family for more than five centuries. The facilities, designed by architects Jaume Bach and Gabriel Mora, won the FAD architecture award in 1989. In less than 30 years, Raventós i Blanc has become one of the most influential producers of cava and still wines (with D.O. Penedès) on the national scene.
