General Information

Fresh, with good acidity, structure, and volume, fine bubbles, and toasted and buttery aromas, Manuel Raventós Enoteca Personal 1998 is a sparkling wine that, as its name suggests, is the result of the personal selection made by Manuel Raventós Negra of the best wines from that vintage produced on his estate.

The coupage of Manuel Raventós Enoteca Personal 1998 is composed of native grapes traditionally used in Catalan cavas, such as parellada, macabeo, and xarel·lo, along with the French chardonnay, perfectly adapted to the lands of the Conca del riu Anoia, in the heart of Penedès. The musts of the four grape varieties, obtained separately, underwent the first fermentation in stainless steel tanks. The blending and the second fermentation took place in the bottle. For this 1998 vintage brought to you by the Club, the long aging on lees, characteristic of the wines in the Enoteca Personal collection, extended over a total of 15 years. The result is a unique sparkling wine with an enveloping silky texture, rated 94 points by Parker.

The winery

Josep María Raventos i Blanc has left an indelible mark on the world of Catalan wine. Not only was he one of the key figures behind the unstoppable rise of Codorníu – he left the company in 1982 – he was also the mayor of Sant Sadurní d'Anoia and president of the CRDO Cava. In March 1986, barely a week after founding the winery that bears his name, a heart attack ended the life of Josep María during a trip to New Zealand.

The estate where the winery is located spans 90 hectares and has belonged to the family for more than five centuries. The facilities, designed by architects Jaume Bach and Gabriel Mora, won the FAD architecture award in 1989. In less than 30 years, Raventós i Blanc has become one of the most influential producers of cava and still wines (with D.O. Penedès) on the national scene.
