Dalmau 2019 is a limited-production red wine from Rioja, rated 95 points by the renowned wine critic Robert Parker. At an altitude of 465 meters lies Pago Canajas, the century-old vineyard where the tempranillo, cabernet sauvignon, and graciano grapes used to craft this magnificent Reserva red wine are grown.
The history of Marqués de Murrieta dates back to 1852 and Don Luciano Murrieta, its founder, a true pioneer and promoter of Rioja wine. Currently, under the leadership of Vicente Dalmau Cebrián-Sagarriga, Count of Creixell, this historic winery is experiencing a new era focused on revitalizing the style of its wines under the enological direction of María Vargas. A respectful update of its references, giving more prominence to the fruit, the terroir, and the magnificent vineyards (300 hectares) of the Finca Ygay, owned by the winery.
The vinification of each variety that makes up this Reserva from Rioja was carried out separately at a controlled temperature for a total of 10 days in Allier oak vats. After this process, the wine was aged for 20 months in new French oak barrels from Allier and an additional 6 months in concrete tanks before bottling.
Dalmau 2019 is a full-bodied, harmonious, and elegant wine that pairs perfectly with dishes such as oxtail braised in red wine, duck tenderloin with oven-grilled foie, migas, potato croquettes, stewed pigeon, slow-cooked veal shank, or desserts like bitter dark chocolate truffles. The winery recommends pairing it with wild duck breast supreme with boletus mousse and fine black truffle, blackberry and red wine sorbet; 85% fluid chocolate cake with crispy pistachio and raspberry praline; or truffled cheese cream over blueberry coulis.
Marqués de Murrieta is one of the most important wineries in the history of Spain and a living legend of national wine. A true château that prides itself on being the oldest winery in Rioja. Its history began in 1852 in Ygay, near Logroño, when Luciano de Murrieta y García-Lemoine decided to transform Rioja wine into a noble wine aged in barrels, applying the techniques he had learned in Bordeaux. He achieved this goal within a few years, thus ushering in a new era in the winemaking of our country.
Vicente Cebrián-Sagarriga, Count of Creixell, acquired the winery in 1983 and became the main driving force behind Marqués de Murrieta crossing borders and consolidating the presence of its wines in the international market. The successful -and passionate- management of his son Vicente Dalmau Cebrián-Sagarriga, combined with the outstanding work of winemaker María Vargas, has ensured that the winery remains at the international forefront. Among its achievements are the coveted 100 Parker points for the white Castillo Ygay 1986 and the recognition of the red Castillo Ygay Gran Reserva Especial 2010 as the best wine in the world by the publication 'Wine Spectator'. Additionally, in 2022, Marqués de Murrieta became the first Spanish winery to enter the top 10 of the prestigious guide 'The Wine Advocate', among many other accomplishments.
Their wines are crafted from the 300 hectares of vineyards located on the Finca Ygay estate and are characterized by their elegance and longevity. Wines that are present in 104 countries around the world.
