Fil.loxera & Cía is a young and interesting winery from the D.O. Valencia that produces garage wines closely tied to their original terroir, in the municipality of Fontanars dels Alforins. El Cordero y las Vírgenes 2019 is their top red, a successful coupage of monastrell, garnacha tintorera, tempranillo, and malvasía, varieties that were fermented separately, at controlled temperature, in open barrels, with wild yeasts and gentle pigeage. The subsequent 18-month aging in oak has turned it into a complex, enveloping, and fruity wine.
Founded in 2011 in Fontanars dels Alforins (Valencia), Fil.loxera & Cía is a small winery born from the partnership of José Ramón Domenech, Pilar Esteve, and Joan B. Llobell, three friends with more than a decade of experience in the world of viticulture.
From their micro-plots located in the Clariano subzone of the D.O. Valencia, planted with monastrell, tempranillo, garnacha tintorera, and other native varieties in recovery such as arco, ull de perdiu, or valensí, come authentic garage wines with a distinctive personality, character, and absolutely original names, such as El Cordero y las Vírgenes or Beberás de la Copa de tu Hermana, inspired by the Bible, as it is one of the books with the most references to wine in history.
