General Information

Carlos Moro Finca Valdemediano 2016 is the most personal wine with D.O. Toro from Carlos Moro. A red wine made from Tinta de Toro grapes sourced from a 90-year-old vineyard with ungrafted vines. The sandy soil that stretches along the slopes of the Duero River has allowed the preservation of this unique pre-phylloxera vineyard.

For the production of CM Finca de Valdemediano 2016, a double selection process of the grape clusters is carried out, both in the vineyard and in the winery, and fermentation begins using the traditional method. Subsequently, the wine is placed in French barrels from Taransaud (one of the most renowned cooperages worldwide), which, after 16 months of aging, provide the perfect touch of wood that this wine and this variety need.

CM Finca de Valdemediano 2016 (D.O. Toro) is part of the Colección Vinos de Finca, a project closely linked to the renowned businessman and winemaker Carlos Moro, who personally conducts a meticulous selection of the vineyards that will be part of the range endorsed with his name. This involvement of the winemaker ensures a unique quality and expressiveness in CM wines, which are, without a doubt, benchmarks in the world of Spanish viticulture.

Tasting notes

High-layer wine with intense purplish hues and cardinal rim.

On the nose, it is straightforward and complex. It highlights aromas of ripe black fruit, tangy blackberry jams, and a subtle balsamic background of lavender. Its time in wood provides hints of sweet spices such as clove, black pepper, chocolate, and roasted notes.

The aromatic memories persist on the palate, accompanied by an elegant alcoholic warmth. The result is a harmonious and very balanced wine.

The winery

Bodega CM de Matarromera
Founded in 2014 in San Vicente de la Sonsierra, Bodega CM de Matarromera (D.O.Ca. Rioja) is another remarkable project by the renowned Castilian-Leonese winemaker Carlos Moro, owner of Bodegas Familiares Matarromera. This venture was born from Carlos Moro's desire to expand Bodegas Familiares Matarromera and become part of a denomination of origin as prestigious and iconic as Rioja (prior to the creation of Bodega CM de Matarromera, Bodegas Familiares Matarromera included only wineries within the denominations of origin influenced by the Duero River).

A business project aimed at producing high-end wines and sharing the philosophy upon which Bodegas Familiares Matarromera is founded: innovation, respect for sustainability and the environment, and the pursuit of the highest quality. Bodega CM de Matarromera owns 30 hectares of its own vineyards distributed across various plots located in San Vicente de la Sonsierra and Labastida, as well as 60 controlled hectares situated in these towns and Ábalos.

The winery's facilities feature an impressive 300-meter-long underground cellar that houses 2,000 American and French oak barrels. Currently, Bodega CM de Matarromera produces the brands CM and Oinoz (D.O.Ca. Rioja). Additionally, this initiative also includes other select estate wines from symbolic vineyards in other denominations of origin, such as Toro, Rueda, Ribera del Duero, and Cigales.
