Casa de la Ermita is possibly the winery that’s done the most to put Jumilla on the world wine map. Located in the heart of the El Carche nature reserve, at an altitude of 700 metres, it’s produced some of the most important wines in this eastern region. Casa de la Ermita Crianza 2022 is one of its must-try reds, created from a blend of the native Monastrell grape and the international Syrah and Cabernet Sauvignon varieties.

General Information

The basis of Casa de la Ermita Crianza 2022 is Jumilla's iconic grape variety, the native Monastrell. The remaining ingredients are Syrah and Cabernet Sauvignon, two international varieties that have adapted very well to this part of the province of Murcia. It’s been aged for over 6 months in French and American oak barrels.

Casa de la Ermita, together with firms such as Luzón and the Gil family, was the driving force behind the modernisation of the D.O. Jumilla and is jointly responsible for making Monastrell one of the most important varieties grown in Spanish vineyards. Founded by the García family in 1999, the winery is located in the El Carche nature reserve at an altitude of 700 metres, one of the highest parts of the D.O. Jumilla.

It was also the first winery in Jumilla to achieve legal recognition for its organic farming practices. It has 100 hectares of vineyards where it chiefly grows Monastrell, though it also cultivates other international varieties such as Merlot, Syrah, Cabernet Sauvignon and Petit Verdot. In fact, the Murcia-based company even has an experimental garden where it tests the adaptability of dozens of prestigious varieties.

The red wine Casa de la Ermita Crianza 2022 (D.O. Jumilla) is ideal for pairing with leg of lamb stuffed with mushrooms or baked rice.

Creators' opinion

The winery

Casa de la Ermita
In the Sierra de El Carche, a protected regional park where the highest mountains of Murcia are located, lie the vineyards and winery of Casa de la Ermita, a family-owned estate founded in 1999.

The combination of traditional agriculture, a long-standing activity of the owning family, with modernity and the latest technology in service of winemaking, forms the two pillars upon which Casa de la Ermita is built. All of this is supported by an unbeatable starting point: an excellent quality raw material, born from its 100 hectares of vineyards.

The queen grape of the D.O. Jumilla, monastrell, is skillfully crafted by Casa de la Ermita, but the family winery also prides itself on having successfully adapted and utilized other prestigious international varieties such as petit verdot, merlot, syrah, and cabernet sauvignon.
