General Information

The basis of Casa de la Ermita Crianza 2021 is the iconic grape variety of Jumilla, the native Monastrell, which accounts for 40% of the blend. The rest is Syrah (35%) and Cabernet Sauvignon (25%), two international varieties that have adapted very well to this part of Murcia. More than 6 months in French and American oak barrels resulted in a wine that won a gold medal at the national VINESPAÑA contest.

Casa de la Ermita, together with firms such as Luzón and the Gil family, was the driving force behind the modernisation of the D.O. Jumilla and shares responsibility for making Monastrell one of the most important Spanish grape varieties. Founded by the García family in 1999, the winery is located in El Carche, a protected Regional Park at an altitude of 700 metres, one of the highest in the D.O. Jumilla.

It was also the first Jumilla winery to achieve legal recognition for its biological farming methods. It owns 100 hectares of vines, chiefly Monastrell but also international varieties such as Merlot, Syrah, Cabernet Sauvignon and Petit Verdot. In fact, the Murcia-based firm has an experimental garden for testing dozens of prestigious varieties to see how they adapt.

Casa de la Ermita Crianza 2021 (D.O. Jumilla) is ideal with leg of lamb stuffed with mushrooms.

The winery

Casa de la Ermita
In the Sierra de El Carche, a protected regional park where the highest mountains of Murcia are located, lie the vineyards and winery of Casa de la Ermita, a family-owned estate founded in 1999.

The combination of traditional agriculture, a long-standing activity of the owning family, with modernity and the latest technology in service of winemaking, forms the two pillars upon which Casa de la Ermita is built. All of this is supported by an unbeatable starting point: an excellent quality raw material, born from its 100 hectares of vineyards.

The queen grape of the D.O. Jumilla, monastrell, is skillfully crafted by Casa de la Ermita, but the family winery also prides itself on having successfully adapted and utilized other prestigious international varieties such as petit verdot, merlot, syrah, and cabernet sauvignon.
