The Castaño family is a benchmark in the Mediterranean wine sector and the leading representative of the D.O. Yecla due to their trajectory and achievements with native grape varieties, mainly monastrell. After several generations dedicated to the world of wine, the Castaño lineage has managed to adapt the legacy of their ancestors by incorporating new technologies and the most modern winemaking systems to enhance their magnificent vineyard heritage, which spans around 500 hectares of vineyards.
From the D.O. Yecla, we bring you one of their top red wines, Casa de la Cera 2016. A wine born from a selection among the nearly 500 hectares of vineyards managed by the Castaño family, offering you the full character and complexity of its unique blend, composed of monastrell, cabernet sauvignon, garnacha tintorera, syrah, and merlot grape varieties.
A red wine crafted from very old vines, aged for 20 months in new barrels. Each batch was individually transferred to open 500-liter oak barrels, where alcoholic fermentation was completed. Once malolactic fermentation was finished, the wines were aged separately before the final coupage. Now, it’s your turn to be amazed.
It boasts a beautiful intense cherry red color, with excellent depth.
On the nose, it reveals great complexity and depth, with aromas of black fruits that give way to balsamic notes and hints of aromatic herbs.
On the palate, it is broad, enveloping, and Mediterranean in character. It displays a fine mouthfeel and enjoys a sweet, perfectly integrated tannin. The finish is perceived as long, marked by a pleasant warmth.
