Casa Castillo La Tendida 2022 is an elegant red wine from Jumilla made from a blend of garnacha (15%) and monastrell (85%), the traditional grape in the Jumilla Denomination of Origin, which contributed elegance, balance, and freshness to the wine. A wine that stands out for its delicate palate, fruity character, and great length and persistence.
This wine belonging to the D.O. Jumilla comes from a plot known as La Tendida, characterized by its gentle slopes and the most calcareous soils of the property, cultivated dry in an area influenced by a continental Mediterranean climate, where the native varieties express themselves fully, showing their typicity.
The grapes used in the production of Casa Castillo La Tendida were hand-harvested, vinified in underground stone vats with whole grapes and temperature control. Fermentation was carried out traditionally with native yeasts, and the wine completed its production process with 14 months of aging in oak foudres.
It all began in 1941 when José Sánchez-Cerezo and Julian Roch Melgares acquired the Casa Castillo estate. But it wasn't until 1991 that the first production of what would become Casa Castillo Crianza was worked on, after renovating the new winery facilities while respecting the original structure. Currently, Casa Castillo is one of the most important wineries in Jumilla and one of the leading representatives of wine production with a clear Mediterranean character.
With a limited production, Casa Castillo La Tendida 2022 is perfect for accompanying flavorful dishes such as lamb, stewed legumes, meat rice dishes, and osso buco.

Casa Castillo (1991) is a family-owned 'boutique' winery committed to the terroir and estate wines. In the early nineties, José María Vicente decided to take the leap into winemaking, relying on the vineyards of the estate his grandfather had purchased in the 1940s.
The estate is located on the high plateau of Jumilla, on slopes reaching up to 760 meters in altitude, sheltered by the Sierra del Molar. Already in the 1980s, José María and his father Nemesio initiated a restructuring of the vineyard. After the renovation of the old winery on the estate, the first wines were launched on the market in 1993.
Casa Castillo was one of the pioneers in recognizing the potential of the monastrell grape for producing high-quality wines. Today, it is a benchmark winery for quality, not only in the D.O. Jumilla but also on a national level. Its prestige is largely based on the preservation of those old dry-farmed monastrell vineyards, many of which are planted on their own rootstock.
