Long before the guru Robert Parker highlighted Jumilla as one of Spain's most promising wine regions, Bodegas Carchelo (1990) was already thriving both domestically and internationally. For 30 years, its red wines have carried the name of this historic Murcian town across the globe. This is, therefore, a visionary winery in the promotion of Jumilla, a pioneer in believing in monastrell -the queen grape of the area- to produce quality wines, at a time when production in the region was limited to rustic wines sold in bulk to be blended with others.
Bodegas Carchelo inherits a winemaking tradition that goes back three generations. Its facilities are located at the foot of the Sierra del Carche and are equipped with the latest technologies. Regarding the vineyard, it spans 100 hectares cultivated with monastrell –the queen grape of Levante-, as well as other national and international varieties. The focus on monastrell vines planted at high altitudes (600 m) and their blending with other varieties are two of the distinctive traits of this winery.
