Val de Reyes Blanco 2021 is a semi-sweet white wine produced by Bodegas Fariña under the I.G.P. Vino de la Tierra de Castilla y León. Breaking away from traditional Castilian red wines, the winery has crafted this coupage with a surprising result.
It is worth noting that the muscat variety for this wine is harvested with a high percentage of botrytis. Its production process included alcoholic fermentation at a temperature of 15ºC. Through successive filtrations at very low temperatures, the fermentation was interrupted to leave the wine with a sugar content between 65/70 grams per liter. The result is a semi-sweet white that captivates with its notes of orange peel and honey, with a tasty and fresh mouthfeel.
Bodegas Fariña was founded in 1942 by Salvador Fariña, a pioneer and great promoter of the D.O. Toro. Today, the second generation runs the Zamora-based winery, crafting interesting wines under a philosophy that combines the use of the most modern techniques with traditional methods of the production area. Manuel Fariña produces wines that are characterized by their uniqueness and also express the Castilian-Leonese personality.
With an aging potential of between 2 and 6 years, Val de Reyes Blanco 2021 is ideal for accompanying various appetizers, such as foie gras or Iberian ham, nuts, and not-too-sweet desserts.
Val de Reyes Blanco exhibits a pale greenish-yellow color.
On the nose, it presents great complexity due to fermentation in the presence of botrytis grapes. It features an intense aroma of muscat grapes, orange peel, and honey.
On the palate, it is flavorful, sweet without being cloying, and fresh.
The D.O. Toro would not be the same without the work carried out over the years by its most emblematic winery: Bodegas Fariña, a family-owned winery, pioneering, innovative, and a benchmark in the region. It is the only winery that has been present since the origins of the designation and the firm responsible for the great leap in quality achieved by its wines.
Following in the footsteps of the founder, Salvador Fariña, who began his work in a rudimentary winery dug into the ground in Casaseca de las Chanas, Manuel Fariña López turned this winery into the spearhead of the Tinta de Toro variety. He was a pioneer in Toro in applying winemaking techniques used in the world's most important wine regions, such as fermentation in stainless steel tanks, temperature control during fermentation, and selecting the most suitable barrels for aging wines. A series of innovations that laid the foundations of what many call “the great miracle of Toro”; changes that made it possible to move away from the bold and somewhat heavy wines of a past era to create powerful and elegant wines that have made the D.O. Toro a leading region.
Bodegas Fariña has over 300 hectares of its own vineyards, a true guarantee when producing high-quality wines in the area. Today, Manuel (Manu) Fariña Pérez, son of Manuel and grandson of Salvador, stands as the third generation of winemakers at the winery.
