Sonoma Coast

Officially recognized in 1987, it is one of the AVAs (American Viticultural Areas) located in California's Sonoma County. It covers an area of 2,000 square kilometers, stretching between San Pablo Bay and the border with Mendocino County. The planted vineyards span more than 1,900 hectares, with the predominant varieties being the red pinot noir and the white chardonnay.
Climate
The region boasts a wide range of distinct microclimates but, generally speaking, it is known for its cool climate, with more frequent rainfall than in other areas of the county and fog, due to its proximity to the Pacific Ocean and the Russian River.
Soil
The soils in this region are also very diverse: from clayey and sandy to volcanic, including shallow alluvial soils.
