Francisco Hurtado de Amézaga

Family

Throughout its history, the ownership of the Marqués de Riscal winery (1858) has varied, although it can be said that it has maintained its family character, as it has remained in the hands of a small group of families. The Hurtado de Amézaga family were the sole owners until the 1940s, when they transferred 14% of the capital to two new shareholders, one of whom was José Luis Aznar Zavala, from the Aznar shipping company. Over time, the Aznar family has become the majority shareholder; and Francisco Hurtado de Amézaga, a member of the founding family, continues to lead the winemaking efforts.
