Patagonia is a very vast region, the largest and southernmost in Argentina, but the vineyard area represents only 2% of Argentina's vineyards. It is distributed across the provinces of Neuquén, Río Negro, Chubut, and La Pampa. Although it has subregions with different microclimates and locations, it is characterized by a high thermal amplitude, being located at 39º south latitude. With warm days and very cold nights. The dry air and constant breezes keep the vines healthy, and together with the other characteristics of the landscape, they give the wines a unique character.
Climate
Desert continental climate. With 20% relative humidity. Thermal amplitude greater than 20ºC during the ripening period. Permanent breezes. Scarce rainfall.
Soil
The soils in San Patricio del Chañar are of 3 types. The ancient Pleistocene terrace with well-drained and deep soils composed of coarse loamy-skeletal and sandy fragments over loamy-skeletal. The soils of the colluvial fan, moderately deep, well-drained, and with coarse fragments of the sandy loamy-skeletal type over loamy-skeletal. And finally, the soils of the modern fluvial terrace, which are less deep and not as well-drained, dominated by the fine loamy textural family over loamy-skeletal.
