General Information

Juan Carlos Vizcarra proudly showcases an Atlantic Garnacha in the heart of Ribera del Duero. Vizcarra Garnacha 2021 is a sensational single-varietal red wine crafted from the finest selection of Garnacha grapes from the Celia vineyard, located in Mambrilla de Castrejón (Burgos). For its production, the grapes were hand-harvested in 15 kg boxes and destemmed before alcoholic fermentation. After 15 days of maceration, malolactic fermentation took place in barrels, followed by 14 months of aging in a mix of 50% French and 50% American oak barrels. The result is a surprising wine that is round, fresh, and fruity; with great color, elegance, and balance.

Since his youth, Juan Carlos Vizcarra has understood the essence of viticultural work. After working alongside his father, from whom he learned the craft of winemaking, Juan Carlos began his personal project in 1991 with the establishment of Bodegas Vizcarra, a winery where he serves as both owner and winemaker. Located across various plots in the Burgos villages of Mambrilla de Castrejón and Roa de Duero, his vineyards produce wines renowned for their fruit and elegance, such as this Vizcarra Garnacha.

Considered a unique and distinctive wine compared to others from the region, this 100% Garnacha is classified as a Vino de la Tierra de Castilla y León. Vizcarra Garnacha 2021 is a wine made for enjoyment, showcasing great personality and richness, and it pairs ideally with dishes such as roasted pork, vegetables, grilled red meats, roasted lamb, charcuterie, and seasonal mushrooms.

In appearance, it shows a cherry red color with violet reflections, clean and bright.

Clean and intense nose where raspberry, strawberry aromas and woody notes stand out over a mineral background.

Enveloping, powerful, and fresh on the palate. On the palate, it reveals a pleasant fruity and elegant sensation.

The winery

Bodegas Vizcarra
In the line of small and prestigious wineries that carry on the heritage of the first winemakers of Ribera del Duero, we find renowned names such as Viña Sastre and others perhaps less known but equally praised by international critics, like Vizcarra. A selective winery with very well-positioned wines. The history of Bodegas Vizcarra began in 1991 under the guidance of Juan Carlos Vizcarra, its current owner and winemaker. His father, José Manuel Vizcarra, was one of the pioneers in cultivating vineyards in Ribera during the 1980s.

Convinced of the value of these vineyards, Juan Carlos began winemaking in 1991 in rudimentary facilities, producing family-tradition wines that have been refined over time to compete in the high-end market. His outstanding work in the field stands out, where he applies traditional and perfectionist viticulture. He owns 50 hectares of vineyards in the areas of Mambrilla de Castrejón and Roa de Duero (Burgos), in the heart of Ribera del Duero, cultivated with the denomination's flagship variety, tinto fino (tempranillo), along with a small proportion of international grapes.

In 2007, Vizcarra inaugurated new facilities, where all winemaking processes are carried out by gravity, thus achieving honest and concentrated wines.
