Monastrell is hailed as one of the best native Spanish varieties. It goes into making ‘Mediterranean’ reds, an alternative style to the widely known Tempranillo with more of a focus on ripeness and fruit. Viñahonda Crianza 2020 is a superb example of this Mediterranean style. Created by one of the longest-standing wineries in Jumilla, it was grown on vines with a very low yield and has been aged in French oak for 12 months.

General Information

Viñahonda Crianza 2020 is a red made from Monastrell grapes grown on dry-farmed vines with very low grape yields (under 1.5 kg per plant) and a high quality – ingredients that ensure the best results. Twelve months in French oak have afforded it complexity, elegance and a long life.

Three generations of a family are behind Bodegas Silvano García, founded in 1925. It’s one of the firms responsible for enhancing the prestige of the D.O. Jumilla, making it home to superb wines packed with personality. The predominant variety in its vineyards is Monastrell, the region’s iconic grape, because it is here, in this area with an arid climate and poor soils, that it attains its full expression.

Bodegas Silvano García embarked on a new period in 2000 when it launched new wines resulting from a selection of high-quality grapes and updated winemaking systems. The brands Viñahonda for whites, rosés and reds and Silvano García for sweet wines came out that year.

The red Viñahonda Crianza 2020 (D.O. Jumilla) has a complex balsamic and fresh nose with a high concentration of very ripe fruit (black plums, blackberries, figs), floral hints and touches of fine resins, balsamic notes and sweet spices (vanilla and cocoa). Potent and fresh yet smooth on the attack. Goes perfectly with blue fish such as tuna loin.
