Vara y Pulgar Blanco 2024 is one of the creations of the Compañía de Vinos del Atlántico, a wine empire present in 18 denominations across Spain and Portugal. Made from the native varieties of Jerez—palomino fino, vijiriego blanco, and malvasía—this white wine is distinguished by its Atlantic character and the uniqueness of the fine albariza soils where the vines grow. It ferments in barrels and is refined over 12 months in oak barrels and foudres.
With Vara y Pulgar Blanco 2024, winemaker Alberto Orte steps away from the traditional path of the Marco de Jerez and opts for a magnificent non-fortified white wine. This wine, which completes the ‘Vara y Pulgar’ range, is made with grapes from both his own vineyards and trusted local growers. The palomino fino variety takes center stage, combined with other Jerez varieties such as vijariego blanco and malvasía. This blend provides the wine with a perfect combination of intense fruit flavors and fresh, ripe grape notes, along with a saline expressiveness and a velvety texture.
In 2002, the families of Alberto Orte and Patrick Mata combined their winemaking heritage and founded the Compañía de Vinos del Atlántico, one of the great wine houses represented in 18 denominations of origin across Spain and Portugal. Under this umbrella, Alberto Orte launched his project in Jerez, aiming to produce unique and singular wines by recovering native grape varieties historically present in the Cádiz region—many of which had disappeared. This research work and meticulous winemaking result in exceptional wines that are concentrated, flavorful, complex, and full of nuances.
Vara y Pulgar Blanco 2024 takes its name from the classic pruning method consisting of one cane and one spur per vine arm. This white wine from Cádiz boasts vibrant fruity flavors, great freshness, and a very pleasant touch of saline minerality. Made to be enjoyed, it invites you to keep drinking.

Tasting notes
On the nose, it stands out for its typical notes of the Palomino Fino variety. Aromas of green apple, citrus, almond, and herbaceous touches appear.
On the palate, those aromas of stone fruit and citrus reappear. A balanced, fresh, saline, and persistent wine. It stands out for its velvety limestone texture.
