92 Parker points for Carlos Moro's flagship in Cigales
Valdelosfrailes Crianza 2021 is one of the flagship wines of Carlos Moro, founder of Bodegas Familiares Matarromera. It is a red from Cigales made with Tempranillo and aged for 12 months in French and American oak. Fresh, elegant and with mineral character, it has already received important recognitions, such as 92 points from The Wine Advocate, Robert Parker's wine bible.
Elaborated with Tempranillo, Valdelosfrailes Crianza 2021 spends 12 months ageing in French and American oak barrels. This maturation enhances the fruit without overpowering it, giving the wine its serious yet never rustic character, which suits it perfectly.
Born in the heart of the D.O. Cigales, it comes from vineyards located very close to the winery, on plots with alluvial soils from the Pisuerga River, limestone subsoils and a surface covered with rounded pebbles. These conditions force the vines to work hard throughout the summer, shaping much of the wine's distinctive mineral character. A wine that faithfully reflects its origin. No gimmicks.
Valdelosfrailes, founded in Cubillas de Santa Marta by Carlos Moro, represents one of the most exciting developments within this Denomination of Origin. Surrounded by vineyards and driven by a clear commitment to quality, the winery has spent years refining a distinctive and recognisable style. Francisco Guerra leads the winemaking, while Javier Aladro serves as Technical Director. A project with deep roots, outstanding craftsmanship and plenty of personality.

Tasting notes
View
Cherry-colour with intense purplish tones.
Nose
The nose offers clear aromas of black fruit and a pronounced mineral character derived from the plots, in perfect balance with notes of lactones, roasted coffee and liquorice from the American oak, along with the spiced hints from the lightly toasted French oak barrel. The nose is complex, precise and elegant.
Mouth
The entry is open, with lively acidity that carries the black fruit and marks a brisk, well-defined progression. As it unfolds, roasted and spiced notes appear, alongside a mineral underpinning and a subtle smoke that reflect the origin of the vines and its barrel maturation. The overall wine increases in complexity without losing balance, with polished tannins and an elegant texture. The finish is intense, long and persistent.
Sponsored by the family winemaking tradition in the D.O. Cigales, Carlos Moro (Bodegas Familiares Matarromera) founded Bodega Valdelosfrailes in the Valladolid municipality of Cubillas de Santa Marta. From its inception, the winery broke with the winemaking tradition of classic claretes to focus on high-quality wines, vinified primarily with the main variety of the region, the tempranillo, which thrives so well along the Duero river. Bodega Valdelosfrailes owns 60 hectares of its own vineyards and controls an additional 70 hectares.
