General Information

Gran Solorca Reserva 2018 owes its quality to the fact that it's made entirely from Tempranillo grapes from gobelet-trained vines over 70 years old, owned by the winery. The wine was aged for 24 months, including 20 in new French oak barrels and 4 in new American oak barrels. A red wine with complex and spicy aromas from ageing in fine wood, and full and well-structured on the palate.

Established in the heart of the D.O. Ribera del Duero, in the municipality of Roa, Viña Solorca is a family firm headed by Víctor Balbás. Heir to a winemaking tradition and aware of the enormous potential of his vineyards, in 1998 he decided to produce wine from them in a winery of his own. The firm possesses 90 hectares of vineyards that chiefly grow the region's native grape variety, Tempranillo or Tinto Fino. These vineyards are largely used for wines that are aged for long periods.

In order to respect its quality, Gran Solorca Reserva 2018 (D.O. Ribera del Duero) was not subjected to any kind of physical treatment and can therefore display a small amount of crystals. It's ideal with dishes such as roast guinea fowl stuffed with mushrooms or roast rack of lamb.

Creators' opinion

Deep maroon with a brick-red rim, intense pigmentation and very clear and satiny. Unmistakable complex and spicy aromas, typical of ageing in fine wood, bring to mind toasty and balsamic notes reminiscent of cocoa, coffee and liquorice. Its liveliness, fullness and great structure on the palate make it dense and pleasant to drink, with a great laying-down potential that's worth taking into account.
