Bordón Reserva 2017 is a traditional Rioja grown on a selection of Tempranillo vines in the three subzones of Rioja: Rioja Alta, Rioja Alavesa and Rioja Oriental. The wine was aged for 13-14 months in medium-toasted American white oak (Ohio) and French oak barrels and subsequently matured to perfection for a long period in the bottle.
Bodegas Franco-Españolas started out in 1890, at a key moment in the history of winemaking in Spain: the arrival of French wine producers in La Rioja as a consequence of the spread of the wine blight, phylloxera, across French vineyards. Bordeaux-born Frederick Anglade founded the winery and began applying the new techniques already employed in the neighbouring country, which revolutionised Rioja wines.
In 1920 the winery became wholly Spanish-owned and has been run by the Eguizábal family since 1983. Bodegas Franco-Españolas' wines have been drunk in the main cities all over the world for decades, representing the classical Rioja style.
Bordón Reserva 2017 (D.O.Ca. Rioja) is ideal with soups and stews such as Asturian bean stew (fabada) and lentil hotpot.
