Tobía Selección de Autor 2021 is an elegant and highly expressive Rioja crafted by Óscar Tobía from a blend of Tempranillo, Garnacha, Maturana and Graciano.

Consumption features

Pairing

For its creamy, full-bodied, and persistent profile, Tobía Selección de Autor 2021 pairs very well with stews, burgers, and informal tapas. It also harmonises with cheeses and cured meats, where its freshness and polished tannins complement without overpowering.

Service

Serve it in a large glass to allow it to open up gently. Decanting it an hour before enjoying is recommended to help it unleash its aromas more fully. Its blend of Tempranillo, Graciano, Garnacha, and other varieties becomes more expressive with that brief oxygenation.

Making process

Winemaking

In the production of Tobía Selección de Autor 2021 the fermentation is carried out using indigenous yeasts, followed by malolactic fermentation in oak barrels.

Aging

It undergoes an 18-month ageing in French and American oak barrels. It is then clarified with fresh egg whites and bottled unfiltered, a decision that helps to preserve its frank character, its enveloping texture, and its spicy notes, with an ageing process that adds complexity without diminishing vibrancy.

Tasting notes

View

Clean and bright, with an intense cherry red colour with garnet edges.

Nose

Very frank aroma of black fruit, blueberries, and dried plum, with notes of clove and nutmeg, and a background of peaty, toffee, and aromatic herbs.

Mouth

Lush, full-bodied and juicy, with good freshness; smooth and velvety entry, polished tannins, final tension, long and persistent, tasty, vibrant and seductive.

Winemaker

In 1994, the Riojan Óscar Tobía decided to take charge of the family-owned winemaking bodega in San Asensio with the goal of producing signature wines. Together with economist Ana Castelló, Óscar has achieved well-deserved and progressive international recognition, establishing himself as one of the best winemakers of his generation.

Bodegas Tobía manages 150 hectares of vineyards across 15 municipalities within the D.O. Ca. Rioja. Both Óscar and his team work hand in hand with farmers to achieve grapes of the highest quality, aiming to produce the finest wines in the region. All the vineyards have been selected for their low yields, unique topography, microclimate, and special soil characteristics.
