It comes from a family of Rioja winegrowers from San Asensio. Their grandparents made wine in the Cuevas neighborhood.

After graduating as an Agricultural Engineer, he completed a Master's degree in Oenology and Viticulture. In 1994, he took charge of his family's cosechero winery together with Ana Castelló, with the aim of transforming it into a signature winery.
