We present Tagonius Crianza 2020, a modern-style red wine, resulting from blending four international varieties: petit verdot, cabernet sauvignon, merlot, and syrah. General Information

The wines from Madrid have an extensive winemaking history and are currently gaining fame and presence. Of the five subzones that make up the D.O. Vinos de Madrid, Arganda is the largest and has a more glorious past. Here is born Tagonius Crianza 2020, a modern-style red that does not follow the prevailing trend of the area, neither in the blend (composed in this case by the international grapes petit verdot, cabernet sauvignon, merlot, and syrah), nor in the aging (mainly in French oak, instead of the dominant American oak).

Bodegas Tagonius is located about 40 km southeast of Madrid, in the municipality of Tielmes, within the Arganda subzone, the largest of the three that make up the D.O. A region with great potential, whose wines were already consumed in the Royal Court in the 17th and 18th centuries. Specifically, Tagonius is located on the banks of the Tajuña River, a tributary of the Tagus, in very mineral-rich lands.

This winery is distinguished by the perfect ripening of its varieties and long aging processes. It has 35 hectares of vineyard divided into plots, in very mineral-rich lands, in the river's valley, where the grapes reach high levels of quality. In the year 2000, it built its modern facilities in the same place that housed the 19th-century Justo del Pozo Olmeda winery.

Tagonius Crianza 2020 (D.O. Vinos de Madrid) is ideal to pair with hearty meat dishes like oven-roasted lamb with aromatic herbs or beef stew with oven-baked potatoes.

Tasting notes

In appearance, it presents a beautiful intense ruby red with a rim of the same color, very well covered with a layer.

On the nose, it is very expressive; initially, notes of ripe red fruit appear, along with balsamic aromas (regaliz) and sweet spices (vanilla, cinnamon) that are complemented by toasted touches.

Fleshy and well-structured on the palate, with a noble and smooth tannin. In its finish - long and persistent - the spicy notes announced by the nose return.

The winery

Bodegas Tagonius is one of the leading wineries of the new wave of Madrid wines, creating modern-style wines with the incorporation of foreign varieties. It is located about 40 km southeast of Madrid, in the Arganda subzone, the largest of the three that make up the D.O. Vinos de Madrid; a region with great potential, whose wines were already consumed in the Royal Court in the 17th and 18th centuries.

Specifically, Tagonius is situated on the banks of the Tajuña River (Tagonius in Latin), a tributary of the Tagus. Its vineyards stretch across various plots of highly mineral-rich soils in the river valley. In total, it manages 25 hectares of its own vineyards and an additional 50 hectares of controlled vineyards, where the tempranillo grape coexists with international varieties such as syrah, merlot, and cabernet sauvignon. It also cultivates the white varieties malvar and moscatel de grano menudo.

The grapes are processed in modern facilities built in the year 2000 on the same site as the old Justo del Pozo Olmeda winery, dating back to the 19th century. In its large barrel room, French and American oak from the best cooperages coexist.
