Señorío de Nava Crianza 2019 comes from a vintage with the official rating of Excellent in the D.O. Ribera del Duero. It has been created in 40-year-old trellised Tempranillo vineyards, grown on different plots in Burgos and Soria, in very poor, clay-chalky soils, at altitudes over 840 m. The harvest was manual, selecting the best bunches in the vineyard. Aged for 12 months in medium-toasted 225 litre French oak barrels with a capacity of 300 litres.
Founded in 1986 in Nava de Roa (Burgos), Bodegas Señorío de Nava has its origins in an old cooperative re-established by a group of winemakers of León origin, who refurbished the facilities to provide them with the latest technological advances. This is how a pioneering winery came into being in the D.O. Ribera del Duero, precursor of the first Reserva wines of the denomination.
Señorío de Nava makes its wines with grapes of the Tinto Fino variety from different villages in Burgos and Soria. The average age of the vineyards is 40 years, fed by predominantly clayey-calcareous soils, very poor in organic matter and with variable altitudes over 850 metres.
At the start of the 21st century, the Vázquez Muñoz-Calero family took over the reins of the winery, which now boasts its offer of a perfectly renewed, fresher and more modern classic style, where fruit prevails over wood in wines that are aged in underground warehouses meeting perfect temperature and humidity conditions.
Señorío de Nava Crianza 2019 (D.O. Ribera del Duero) is especially recommended to harmonise with lamb chops or roast lamb.
On the nose, there is an explosion of aromas of ripe black fruit. The wood is subtly integrated, providing toasted and spicy notes that enrich the aromatic profile. The secondary aromas blend harmoniously with the fruit, offering a remarkable olfactory complexity. On the palate, it is silky and balanced, with a smooth attack that elegantly reveals its notes of ageing in wood. The ripe fruit is present again, accompanied by toasted and spicy touches that integrate perfectly. The warmth of the vintage is manifested in an enveloping and velvety texture. The aftertaste is long and persistent, with an impeccable balance between the fruit and the nuances provided by the wood, faithfully reflecting the warmth of the vintage.
