Acquired by the Lorenzo family at the end of the last century, Finca Los Aljibes has stood out from its beginnings as one of the leading establishments in Castilla-La Mancha. An exceptional estate of 900 hectares, located in the municipality of Chinchilla de Montearagón (Albacete), where nearly 180 hectares of vineyards with different varieties take root in limestone soils with low organic matter. In this environment, situated at 1000 meters above sea level, the ideal place is established to cultivate the vines used to produce the wines of Bodega Los Aljibes.
One of the main attractions of Los Aljibes lies in the architecturally significant ensemble with high cultural value that presides over the estate, featuring traditional Manchego motifs. Within its walls, a modern and functional winery is housed, where signature wines are born, such as the one we now present to you, Selectus 2016.
This is the wine that sits at the top of the quality pyramid of Bodegas Los Aljibes and one of the most outstanding in the region since its inception. A red wine graced from the start with high ratings from the most demanding critics (Parker awarded 94 points to its 2007 vintage) and which continues its love affair with the specialized press, recently receiving 93 points from Decanter.
In appearance, it presents a beautiful intense ruby red with a rim of the same color, of high depth.
On the nose, it is elegant and complex, highlighting aromas of forest fruits in jam (blueberry and redcurrant) along with spicy notes (nutmeg) and incredible balsamic touches (licorice and eucalyptus); all in perfect harmony over a pleasant coffee background.
The palate confirms its elegance on the nose, showing itself to be broad, flavorful, compact, with a firm structure and a magnificent fruit load. Persistent finish, where the spicy notes reappear.
Bodegas Los Aljibes is an ambitious family project located in Chinchilla de Montearagón (Albacete), a place that, at first glance, seems quite unusual to host a company of this kind. The winery was built in 2003 in the center of a spectacular estate that spans 178 hectares of vineyard—along with almond and olive trees—at nearly 1,000 meters above sea level. The list of grape varieties cultivated by the Lorenzo family there is impressive and, to say the least, unique: tempranillo, merlot, cabernet sauvignon, cabernet franc, garnacha tintorera, petit verdot, syrah, chardonnay, verdejo, and sauvignon blanc. The limestone soils, continental climate, and altitude are factors that promote low yields and optimal ripening, enhancing the quality of the wines.
The winery's exterior replicates a typical Manchegan construction, while its interior houses the most cutting-edge technology. Here, high-expression wines with an excellent quality-to-price ratio are crafted. The wines of Finca Los Aljibes bear the seal of Vino de la Tierra de Castilla. Manuel Lorenzo, the founder's son, is the current General Director. Finca Los Aljibes takes its name from two natural underground water cisterns used to irrigate the vineyard. Another unique feature of the property is its stud farm of Purebred Spanish Horses (in fact, wine tourists can tour the estate in a horse-drawn carriage).
