La Vinya del Llac, a vineyard over 40 years old, north-facing with clay soils, calcareous bedrock, and pebbles embedded in the deeper layers, is the origin of Raventós i Blanc Blanc de Blancs 2022, one of the fantastic sparkling wines produced by the historic family winery founded in 1986 by Josep Maria Raventós i Blanc, who was a promoter and creator of the D.O. Cava, and mayor of Sant Sadurnà d’Anoia.
Despite the fact that in 2012, under the leadership of Manuel Raventós Negra, the firm left the Catalan D.O., the excellent quality of its wines continues to be a true benchmark in our country for this type of production. The practice of biodynamic viticulture fosters the obtaining of first-rate raw material that is masterfully vinified in the winery.
In the case of Raventós i Blanc Blanc de Blancs 2022, after the manual selection of the best grapes of xarel·lo, parellada, macabeo, and malvasÃa de Sitges, they were pressed at low pressure. The obtained musts underwent static settling at low temperature, and alcoholic fermentation took place in stainless steel tanks, separating varieties and soil types. Once the blend was carried out, the second fermentation was done in the bottle, where the sparkling wine remained, on lees, for at least 18 months.
In appearance, it presents a bright straw-yellow tone.
Light and balanced nose with a strong presence of citrus notes.
Fresh, structured, and smooth on the palate.
Josep María Raventos i Blanc has left an indelible mark on the world of Catalan wine. Not only was he one of the key figures behind the unstoppable rise of Codorníu – he left the company in 1982 – he was also the mayor of Sant Sadurní d'Anoia and president of the CRDO Cava. In March 1986, barely a week after founding the winery that bears his name, a heart attack ended the life of Josep María during a trip to New Zealand.
The estate where the winery is located spans 90 hectares and has belonged to the family for more than five centuries. The facilities, designed by architects Jaume Bach and Gabriel Mora, won the FAD architecture award in 1989. In less than 30 years, Raventós i Blanc has become one of the most influential producers of cava and still wines (with D.O. Penedès) on the national scene.
