General Information

Bodegas Hidalgo, a century-old benchmark in the Jerez wine region, once again demonstrates its exceptional quality and winemaking mastery with creations such as Palo Cortado Wellington VOS 20 años, which encapsulate the essence of tradition.

This palo cortado is a fortified wine from Jerez that is aged in American oak casks for over twenty years, following the criaderas and soleras system. The starting point is the most refined palomino fino musts fortified to 15º alcohol. After this stage, a tasting and selection of some of the casks, where the flor veil has been maintained, is carried out for purely oxidative aging, which is guided by a further addition of alcohol up to 17º. These casks, chosen for their unique organoleptic characteristics, are marked with a horizontal line crossing the original palo (stick), hence the name. Palo Cortado Wellington VOS 20 años is an outstanding wine that can be enjoyed on its own or paired with nuts, cured ham, grilled meats, or aged cheeses.

Tasting notes

Visually, it presents a clean and bright burnt golden yellow color. With fine tears.

On the nose, it stands out for its incredible finesse and its intense aromas of nuts (hazelnuts) and wood.

The palate is smooth and dry, with predominant notes of toasted pastry, nuts, and dried white fruit. Tasty and long-lasting.

The winery

The uniqueness of Spanish biologically aged wines is appreciated and admired worldwide. La Gitana is a clear example of winemaking tradition and contemporary flavors that continue to thrive, captivating and delighting enthusiasts. Bodegas Hidalgo-La Gitana boasts being one of the oldest wineries in the Jerez region. At the beginning of the 18th century, the pioneer of the lineage that would become one of the most important winemaking families in Sanlúcar de Barrameda, the Hidalgos, set foot in these lands. Since 1972, the family has been dedicated to the production of manzanilla, earning a well-deserved reputation as quality producers by the early 19th century. Since then, the winemaking method has not changed: grapes from their own vineyard, artisanal harvests, vinification through the solera and criaderas system, and manual rackings.
