Pago de Valtarreña 2020 is one of the magnificent signature wines from Bodegas Rodero, a true emblem of the D.O. Ribera del Duero, indulgent and powerful, smooth and, at the same time, velvety.
Made only in exceptional vintages, this limited-production red wine owes its name to the terroir from which it originates, the Pago de Valtarreña, a vineyard planted with tinta del país (tempranillo), whose vines have an average age ranging between 45 and 55 years. The genetic peculiarities of these plants, the unique microclimate of the area and that year, and the clay-limestone and fresh sandy soils where they are rooted, provided it with exceptional ripeness and gentle tannins. The 24-month aging in French oak barrels further refined it, transforming it into an aromatic, structured, and highly balanced wine, which also hints at a long lifespan.
After many years dedicated to selling his grapes to some of the most renowned wineries in Ribera del Duero, including Vega Sicilia, Carmelo Rodero decided to establish his own label in 1990. This marked the beginning of the successful journey of one of the most important figures in the D.O. Based in the Burgos town of Pedrosa del Duero, Bodegas Rodero builds its project on a spectacular 140-hectare vineyard, cultivated with utmost care. Discover now their wine Pago de Valtarreña 2020.
In appearance, it shows a clear and bright cherry color, almost without a rim.
On the nose, it reveals an intense and pleasant range of aromas: from ripe black fruits to toasted notes, leathers, and coffees, passing through spices of broad intensity and high persistence.
On the palate, it is very meaty, flavorful, velvety, structured, fresh, and balanced. Pleasant notes of blackberry, coffee with milk caramels, shady forest, pipe tobacco, and minerals. Very long finish.
After many years of selling their grapes to prestigious wineries such as Vega Sicilia, Carmelo Rodero, the fourth generation of winegrowers from Pedrosa de Duero (Burgos), decided in 1990 to produce his own wines, founding Bodegas Rodero.
Bodegas Rodero has positioned itself as one of the most outstanding wineries in Ribera del Duero, thanks especially to the quality of its vineyards. The exquisite care given to the grapes is a top priority. Each of their wines comes from a specific plot and is crafted considering various factors, such as the age of the vines, the type of soil, its orientation, and exposure. This meticulous work also includes selecting the most suitable barrels for the aging of each wine. Carmelo Rodero's daughter, Beatriz, leads the winemaking direction.
