The vintage is the crown category of port wines, used to designate wines made from the finest grapes, sourced exclusively from harvests of exceptional quality. Oporto Martínez Vintage 1985 is a member of this vinous aristocracy, which, in this case, originates from a meticulous selection of touriga nacional, touriga franca, tinta roriz, and tinta cao from Quinta da Eira Velha, one of the finest estates in the D.O.C. Porto.

General Information

The centenary house Martínez Gassiot, owned by the wine giant Symington Family Estates, signs the limited production of Oporto Martínez Vintage 1985, a true gem with a splendid evolution in the bottle over decades.

Origin and quality are the pillars on which the production of this Oporto Martínez Vintage 1985 offered by the Club is based. As its vintage designation anticipates, this is a wine made exclusively with the best grapes from a single harvest, distinguished among others for its excellence. After selecting the fruits of the traditional Portuguese varieties touriga nacional, touriga franca, tinta roriz, and tinta cao, they underwent careful vinification, followed by 24 months of aging in oak barrels. The result is a wine with exceptional aging potential, allowing you to enjoy it up to 50 years after bottling.

Tasting notes

To the eye, it displays a deep and very dense purplish-red color, almost bluish.

The nose is marked by aromas of ripe fruit and notes that evoke wet earth.

On the palate, it shows good structure, great complexity, and balance.

The winery

Martínez Gassiot is a Port wine-producing winery founded in 1790 by Sebastián González Martínez, a Spaniard who began his journey as a merchant in London. In 1822, he partnered with the Englishman John Peter Gassiot, and in 1834 they purchased their first winery in Vila Nova de Gaia.

Since 2006, the company has been owned by the Symington family, one of the most important and influential dynasties in the world of wine. Born from the finest vineyards of the most famous quintas located along the Douro River, Martínez Gassiot’s Ports are characterized by their unique delicacy.
