Monopole Clásico Mágnum 2018 is a white wine that, in the words of CVNE, represents "a long-awaited remake" after 40 years since it was discontinued due to changing trends. A bottle of this Monopole Clásico, from 1979, was found resting in the winery's cellars, showcasing all the minerality, complexity, freshness, and elegance that, for years, kept this white wine as a perennial reference in the national hospitality sector. Now, CVNE brings back this renewed classic, vinified following ancestral winemaking practices from viura and palomino fino grapes sourced from their own vineyards, planted at 600 meters above sea level on limestone soils in Villalba de Rioja.
To create this wine, the grapes, hand-harvested at their optimal ripeness, are gently pressed, and, as was done in the 1960s, the must is transferred to concrete tanks for clarification. Then, alcoholic fermentation begins in stainless steel tanks, and the resulting wine undergoes an eight-month aging process in barrels and used casks, alongside its fine lees. The uniqueness of this white wine lies in the small addition of manzanilla, produced using the traditional method followed by a biological aging under the veil of flor. The result is a wine that preserves the varietal qualities alongside the characteristics of white wines from the past. Monopole Clásico Mágnum 2018 is a powerful wine with aging potential, ideal to enjoy on its own or paired with food.
Monopole, created by CVNE in 1915, is the oldest white wine brand within our borders. With nearly 150 years of history, CVNE is a family-owned winery with a wide range of wines and price points. Located in the renowned Barrio de la Estación de Haro, the heart of Rioja wine, CVNE is a centenary firm that has successfully adapted to its transition into the 21st century.
On the eye, Monopole Clásico Mágnum shows a medium-intensity lemon-yellow color.
Complex aromas where white fruits (pear, apple) and chamomile stand out, followed by almond notes and hints of bakery on a mineral background.
Pleasant entry on the palate, with a broad, creamy, and velvety texture, and a long, fresh, and saline finish.
The Compañía Vinícola del Norte de España is one of the great symbols of the Estación de Haro neighborhood, the great capital of Rioja wine. Founded in 1879 by the brothers Raimundo and Eusebio Real de Asúa, CVNE (as it is known worldwide) can proudly claim to have remained at the top throughout its history. Ten years after its creation, the winery inaugurated an impressive barrel hall designed by the studio of Alexandre Gustave Eiffel. By 1900, it was already producing nearly 80,000 bottles, an unthinkable feat for the time. The 20th century established CVNE as an institution of Spanish wine.
Over 140 years, it has successfully combined tradition and innovation to create wines that today are the standard-bearers of Rioja reds and have garnered international critical acclaim. Its Imperial Gran Reserva 2004 made history when it was chosen as Wine of the Year 2013 by the prestigious American magazine Wine Spectator, marking the first time a Spanish wine received this recognition.
Since its foundation, CVNE has expanded its heritage and grown with avant-garde projects at different times in its history, such as the creation of Viñedos del Contino or Viña Real.
