The Sierra de Gredos has become one of the most interesting wine regions in Spain. In addition to its Garnacha reds, it stands out for its Albillo Real whites, a nearly lost variety that today offers surprising results. Marañones Picarana 2022 is the purest expression of this grape in the Marañones estate environment. The altitude, orientation, and granitic soils provide freshness and balance. Bush-trained vines aged 30 to 70 years, with minimal yields, result in a wine of great personality. A superb and highly gastronomic white wine.

Marañones Picarana 2022 is born from the native and rare albillo real grape, cultivated in San Martín de Valdeiglesias, on the borders of the Sierra de Gredos, a landscape dominated by forests and crops. This variety, present in the area since the 16th century, remains the queen among white grapes.
The bush-trained vines, aged between 30 and 70 years, produce small clusters that find the perfect balance for their development in the southern part of Gredos. The mesoclimate of the Marañones estate, at an altitude of 750-850 meters, provides freshness and precise ripening, giving life to a wine that reflects the essence of its origin.
The harvest was carried out manually in 12 kg boxes, with careful selection to ensure the grapes arrived at the winery in optimal condition. Fermentation took place with native yeasts and on its lees in used barrels of 228, 500, and 600 liters, as well as foudres of 1,200 and 1,500 liters. After 10 months of aging, the wine was blended and bottled in the summer of 2023.
Bodega Marañones is a project created in 2007 in the Sierra de Gredos by lawyer and entrepreneur José Fernando Cornejo Pablos. It debuted on the market with the 2008 vintage. Its vineyards are located in San Martín de Valdeiglesias, one of the three subzones of the D.O. Vinos de Madrid, bordering Ávila and Toledo. Mountainous landscapes where the significant temperature difference between day and night provides ideal conditions for grape ripening.
The philosophy of the winery is respect for the grape, applying very careful and methodical work. Its goal is to achieve elegant garnacha wines that express the characteristics of the soil and the vintage, with the freshness provided by the altitude and mountain climate, and the minerality of the granitic soils. Each plot is vinified separately, and the winery works with ecological and biodynamic methods. In addition to red garnacha wines, Marañones produces white wines with the albillo real grape, such as the fabulous Marañones Picarana Albillo Real 202
