Lleiroso Crianza 2023 is a red wine from Ribera del Duero made 100% from Tempranillo grapes and matured for 12 months in French oak. Fresh, elegant and balanced, it has 90 points Peñín and has won a Gold Medal at Mundus Vini 2025.

Lleiroso Crianza 2023 leaves little doubt about its intention from uncorking: to show the serene strength of the D.O. Ribera del Duero and the qualities of Tempranillo through precise ageing. It originates in Valbuena del Duero and spends 12 months in French oak, followed by 15 months in bottle, to gain shape without losing freshness or character.

Comes from its own vineyards on calcareous-clay soil, at 780 metres elevation, where the vines, with an average age of 35 years, grow in a climate with dry summers and cold winters. Manual harvest in small boxes, carried out in the first week of October, reflects that care from start to finish that often makes the difference.

Bodegas Lleiroso was founded in 2001 with a very clear idea: to make wines linked to the vineyard and the surroundings, in the heart of the D.O. Ribera del Duero. Today it remains faithful to that philosophy of precision and respect for the raw material, with a boutique winery based in Valbuena de Duero and a strong vocation for wines with their own personality.

Lleiroso Crianza 2023 has 90 Peñín points and has won a Gold Medal at Mundus Vini 2025.

Making process

Vintage

The harvest was manual and was carried out in 15 kg boxes. The harvest took place in the first week of October, with Tempranillo as the sole variety, selected to preserve the expression of the Valbuena de Duero vineyard.

Winemaking

In its production, the must ferments in conical stainless-steel tanks, at a controlled temperature of 22-24 ºC, for 12-15 days, a winery process that favours a clean and orderly expression. No specific details about maceration are provided in the available information, but the overall process points to a vinification oriented towards softness and good blending of the wine.

Aging

12 months of ageing in French oak barrels.

Vineyard

Description

Lleiroso Crianza 2023 comes from 55 hectares of its own estate in Valbuena del Duero, with vines averaging 35 years old planted on clayey-calcareous soils, at 780 metres above sea level. The surroundings are marked by moderate-low rainfall, dry summers and cold winters, with notable temperature fluctuations throughout the year, conditions that favour slow and balanced ripening.

Age

Made from Tempranillo from old vines, with an average age of 35 years.

Climate

The grapes of Lleiroso Crianza 2023 come from Valbuena del Duero, where the vineyard benefits from moderate-low rainfall and hot summers that favour slow and complete ripening. The cold winters and notable thermal swings between seasons provide balance and concentration to the fruit.

Viticulture

The winery works with manual harvest in small boxes and a careful selection of the grapes in the field and in the winery, aiming to keep the character of the Tempranillo and the identity of the D.O. Ribera del Duero. The planting in double Royat cordon and goblet reinforces traditional vineyard management, tailored to a dry and contrasting climate.

Tasting notes

View

Cherry-red colour with ruby hues, deep, clean and bright.

Nose

On the nose it displays black fruit perfectly integrated with aromas of spices, clove, smoke and liquorice. The overall profile is deep and expressive. It stands out for its balance and for a clear, enveloping aroma.

Mouth

Voluminous from the first sip. On the palate it is round and velvety, with a very pleasant and well-balanced mouthfeel. The dark fruit integrates with the wood, leaving a flavoursome profile, with volume and a polished texture. The finish is long and persistent.
