Nine hectares located between Villabuena, Samaniego, and Ábalos house the select origin of Izadi Selección 2019. There grow the best vines, with an average age of 60 years and low yields, owned by Bodegas Izadi, which constitute its very essence and the foundation of this extraordinary coupage that the Club brings you.
The excellent work carried out by Bodegas Izadi in the vineyard, governed by traditional viticulture, which includes subjecting the plants to controlled water stress to improve the qualities of the fruits, is combined with meticulous elaboration. In the case of Izadi Selección 2019, after the manual harvest of the tempranillo and graciano grapes in small boxes, they were destemmed and briefly crushed, to ferment, at a controlled temperature, in stainless steel tanks. Afterwards, the resulting wine was subjected to an aged period of 16 months in selected fine-grain French and American oak barrels.
Bodegas Izadi is one of the firms, which along with Orben, also in the D.O.Ca. Rioja, Finca Villacreces (Ribera del Duero), and Vetus (Toro), make up the Grupo Artevino. The Rioja conglomerate owned by the Antón family supports these four interesting projects with a common philosophy: respect for the vineyard and the grape (predominantly tempranillo) as the basis and protagonist of modern wines, very well-crafted and with great personality, like Izadi Selección 2019.
Tasting notes
Deep ruby color with stained tears.
On the nose, intense aromas of red fruits well integrated with elegant notes of noble woods on a smoky background.
Gustatively tasty, velvety, enveloping, and with great weight of ripe fruit. Long, balanced, and persistent.
The winery
Founded in 1987 by Gonzalo Antón, Izadi belongs to the second wave of wineries that, in the 1990s, placed Rioja at the forefront of modernity, with a philosophy that prioritizes viticulture, terroir, and vineyard care: the grape as the foundation and main protagonist.
Located in the heart of Rioja Alavesa, within the triangle formed by Villabuena, Lapuebla, and Samaniego, Izadi produces wines praised by international critics. It has 187 hectares of vineyards (70 of them owned), distributed across small plots, each with its own unique characteristics and subject to meticulous monitoring. These are old vineyards with high-quality production and low yields. Following this, the winemaking process is based on grape selection and careful, measured aging in barrels from the most renowned oak forests and cooperages.
Izadi was the original winery of the Grupo Artevino, now led by Lalo Antón, son of Gonzalo.
