General Information

Hacienda Monasterio was Peter Sisseck's first project in Spain, and this Hacienda Monasterio Reserva Especial 2018 that the Club brings you is one of his latest gems. Only a few selected wineries are capable of maintaining the highest quality even in challenging vintages, and Bodegas Hacienda Monasterio is, without a doubt, one of them.

Founded in the early 1990s by Carlos de la Fuente and Sisseck, it is a true benchmark of the D.O. Ribera del Duero, and its wines are the expression of a privileged terroir. Hacienda Monasterio Reserva Especial 2018 was born from a strict selection of its best tinto fino (tempranillo) and cabernet sauvignon grapes, cultivated between Pesquera and Valbuena de Duero, on a south-facing slope. The winemaking process stood out for its precision and care, culminating in a 13-month aging in new French oak barrels from Allier, followed by another 14 months in two-year-old barrels. Get one of its prized bottles and enjoy it with all kinds of meats and fine cold cuts, especially Iberian ham, and aged cheeses.

Creators' opinion

The winery

Hacienda Monasterio is one of the most prominent wineries in Ribera del Duero since its foundation in the early nineties. It is also known for being the winery that brought Peter Sisseck, the creator of Pingus, to Spain. The Dane continues to work at the winery and craft its wines, in this case alongside local winemaker Carlos de la Fuente.

The estate where the winery is located, halfway between Pesquera and Valbuena de Duero, belonged at the end of the century to the Lecanda family, who at that time owned Vega Sicilia. The key to Hacienda Monasterio's success is the quality of its vineyard, which has now reached sufficient maturity to provide the winery with exceptional raw material to produce wines of the highest quality.
