The 90 hectares of vineyards controlled by Viña Solorca lie in the ‘golden mile’ of Ribera del Duero, stradding the municipalities of Roa and La Horra in the province of Burgos. These vines have an average age of 40 years and are blessed with unique climate and geological conditions. Grapes from these plants went into making Gran Solorca Reserva 2019, a single-varietal created from Tempranillo grapes from an Excellent vintage and carefully aged for about 24 months in oak barrels.
Based in the heart of the D.O. Ribera del Duero, in the district of Roa, Viña Solorca is a family-run firm headed by Víctor Balbás. Hailing from a family with a grape-growing tradition and aware of the huge potential of its vines, in 1998 he decided to produce wines from its grapes and established a winery. The firm controls 90 hectares of vineyards, chiefly planted with the native Tempranillo or Tinto Fino variety. They are largely used for the firm’s wines that undergo long ageing periods.
Gran Solorca Reserva 2019 (D.O. Ribera del Duero) is ideal with casseroled beef cheeks with wild mushrooms.
Heir to a winemaking tradition, at the end of the last century, Víctor Balbás founded Viña Solorca in the heart of the D.O. Ribera del Duero. In the vicinity of Roa (Burgos), he established his production facility, equipped with the most advanced winemaking techniques to serve carefully nurtured grapes and a majestic barrel cellar that houses French, American, and Eastern European oak from the finest cooperages in the market.
