General Information

Gramona Imperial is a historic sparkling wine created by the third generation of the Gramona family. A sparkling wine that represents the artisanal work of the 'coupage', as it combines different varieties and plots, selected each vintage to maintain the high standard of quality. The varietal composition of Gramona Imperial 2018 includes the grapes xarel.lo, macabeo, parellada, and chardonnay. This 2018 vintage comes from a cooler and wetter harvest than previous ones, which favored a very interesting level of acidity in the grapes for this type of sparkling wines intended to age.

The 2018 vintage is the second one with Demeter certification for all the plots that contribute to this great sparkling wine, a seal that certifies biodynamic agriculture. Each variety is vinified separately. After the blending, the bottles are filled, where the second fermentation will take place. After the disgorging of each one, a dosage is made with the family recipe: expedition liqueur from a centenary solera that adds an extra touch of elegance. The touch of very long aging on the lees (more than 49 months) is superior to that of a Gran Reserva.

Founded in 1881, Gramona is a true classic, a family winery that defends traditional methods and elegance. Located in Sant Sadurní d’Anoia (Barcelona), it is run by the fifth generation and is committed to biodynamic viticulture. In 2019, Gramona left the D.O. Cava along with 8 other wineries to market their sparkling wines under the collective brand Corpinnat, created with the intention of distinguishing the great sparkling wines born in the heart of Penedès from 100% organic grapes, hand-harvested, and entirely vinified on the estate.

Gramona Imperial 2018 is a very versatile sparkling wine: it can be enjoyed throughout the meal, from the appetizer to the dessert.

The Gramona family represents five generations of winemakers. Since the mid-19th century, they have been working their lands in Sant Sadurní d’Anoia (Barcelona), and today they produce sparkling wines under the prestigious Corpinnat quality label, as well as still wines under the umbrella of the D.O. Penedès. Few wineries have made such significant contributions in recent years to elevate Spanish sparkling wines to the level of the great champagnes.

The sparkling wines of Gramona, crafted by Jaume Gramona, one of the foremost experts on bubbles in our country, achieve remarkable levels of elegance and are characterized by their extended aging periods. These sparkling wines, which garner prestigious international accolades, are made following artisanal processes: natural cork stoppers during aging, riddling racks for clarification, and manual disgorgement.

The Gramona family operates under a biodynamic philosophy across approximately 303 hectares. Of these, 72 hectares are owned by the family, while the rest come from Aliances per la Terra, a viticulturist association founded in 2015 and led by Gramona, which adheres to environmentally respectful practices. In 2014, Gramona obtained the Demeter certification, which guarantees biodynamic farming and winemaking for each wine. A few years later, in 2018, it became the first winery on the Peninsula to receive the BIODYVIN biodynamic certification. The Biodyvin label is a highly demanding certification, specific to the wine sector worldwide, and certifies biodynamic practices in both viticulture and winemaking (winery).
