General Information
Vinoselección brings you one of the most important red wines of the Spanish Mediterranean, coming from one of its emblematic wineries: Vicente Gandía, founded in Valencia in 1885. A winery that prides itself on being a driving force of the region's wine industry, a pioneer since 1971 in bottling quality wines with its legendary label Castillo de Liria – today recognized and endorsed in over 70 countries where it is exported – and also present in nine of the most prominent Spanish denominations of origin.
Its most iconic estate is Hoya de Cadenas, located in Cuevas de Utiel, an idyllic place that offers the perfect conditions for obtaining the best grapes and thus producing wines of excellent quality on the same property. From there, we present to you the red wine Generación 1 2019, a wine that pays tribute to the founder of the winery, made from a blend of the native variety that reigns in the D.O. Utiel-Requena, bobal, and the foreign varieties petit verdot and shiraz (or syrah).
This is a red wine with a fresh and renewed image, nurtured by the best vines of the estate and vinified exclusively in vintages that meet the best conditions. Tasting notes
It boasts an attractive intense cherry red color with a deep layer.
On the nose, it is fine, complex, and with good intensity; highlighting aromas of red fruits (blueberries and blackberries) along with pleasant floral and balsamic sensations; all on a toasted background with hints of fine woods.
On the palate, it is balanced, flavorful, luscious, with an elegant and smooth flow and good acidity. It develops fine tannins and a long, persistent finish, with touches of licorice.

Un vino se convierte en lo que es gracias al esfuerzo y sentimiento que se pone en su creación. En esta ocasión, requería mucho de ambas cosas, ya que se trataba de honrar la memoria Vicente Gandía, fundador de nuestra bodega. Un hombre excepcional, que nos ha servido de inspiración para crear este excelente vino de guarda. Para ello hemos combinado 3 variedades que, con el paso del tiempo, ganan en matices y complejidad; como son la bobal, la petit verdot y la shiraz, seleccionadas de entre los mejores pagos de la finca Hoya de Cadenas.
The winery
Founded in 1885 in Valencia, Vicente Gandía is one of the largest and most important wineries in the Valencian Community, and today is present in nine of the most renowned Spanish designations of origin. A company that, on the other hand, maintains its family origins and is currently led by the fourth generation, with Javier Gandía as General Manager. It has facilities equipped with the most advanced technology, while in the vineyard (850 hectares, both owned and controlled) it is committed to sustainable cultivation. It remains faithful to its founding values: contributing to the progress and well-being of society by focusing on quality and innovation, without forgetting tradition. Its commitment to the world of art is another of its defining characteristics.
Its wines, with a modern style, are made with international varieties as well as native ones, such as bobal, and are characterized by offering an excellent quality-price ratio. Furthermore, it is a winery with a clear international vocation, with its wines present in more than 90 countries. In 2014, Vicente Gandía was recognized as the best Spanish winery by the prestigious international competition AWC Vienna. Additionally, that same year, the World Association of Wine and Spirits Journalists and Writers included it as one of the 50 best wineries in the world in its annual list.
