We present you with a proposal featuring the variety that South Africa has turned into its international flagship, pinotage. A grape that was born almost a century ago from the intentional crossing of pinot noir and cinsault vines. Since then, its perfect adaptation to South African terroirs has made it an emblematic variety.
Discover it now with the red wine Ernst Gouws & Co Pinotage 2020. A wine crafted by a family winery whose winemaking heritage dates back to 1691, when the first members of the family arrived on South African soil as part of the French Huguenots who emigrated to Cape Colony. The current winery was founded in the late seventies by Ernst Gouws, who has also passed down his legacy to his children, who now run the company.
For its production, the pinotage vines were harvested and swiftly transported to the winery, where a traditional winemaking process took place in stainless steel tanks with temperature control. After this phase, the batches were transferred to French oak barrels, where they aged for 6 months before bottling.

In appearance, it presents a beautiful ripe cherry red color with ruby rim, of good depth.
On the nose, it stands out for its complexity and elegance, offering, in the foreground, aromas of forest fruits (blackberries and blueberries) along with balsamic notes (licorice) and soft roasted nuances. Later, pleasant hints of chocolate appear, and finally, spicy tones (pepper and clove).
On the palate, it is compact and enveloping, with a magnificent structure, endowed with noble and pronounced tannins. The finish is incredibly long and persistent, with the spicy notes hinted at on the nose.
