General Information

Dominio del Pidio Albillo Mayor 2024 is the result of a painstaking selection of more than 60 century-old plots located in Quintana del Pidio (Burgos), where rural tradition has preserved Albillo vines among the red varieties. The vines, which grow at an altitude of 870 metres above sea level in loamy and sandy soils, have very low yields (2,400 kg/ha), ensuring exceptional concentration. The winemaking process combines modernity and respect for tradition: alcoholic fermentation takes place in equal parts in concrete tanks and French oak barrels. The wine was then aged for five months on its lees in French oak barrels in the historic 16th-century underground cellars.

Cillar de Silos, founded in the 1990s by Amalio Aragón and now run by his sons Roberto and Óscar, has been instrumental in breathing new life into Ribera del Duero. Since its first vintage in 1995, the firm has grown in prestige and quality. Its newest winery, Dominio del Pidio, is dedicated exclusively to producing single-village wines, working only with grapes from Quintana del Pidio. This initiative began with the 2014 vintage and is distinct from Cillar de Silos, which also cultivates vineyards in nearby villages such as Gumiel de Mercado.

Both wineries share a firm commitment to Albillo Mayor and the region's white wines. The result of this passion is Dominio del Pidio Albillo Mayor 2024, an extraordinary wine that combines potency and elegance with vibrant acidity and a marked mineral expression. A true rarity that reflects the spirit of the land.

The winery

Cillar de Silos is one of the wineries that has revitalized Ribera del Duero since the 1990s. A winery established in Quintana del Pidio (Burgos), founded by Amalio Aragón, who in the 1970s, against the trend of his fellow villagers, began gathering the best plots of old tempranillo vineyards in the area instead of uprooting them. This is a privileged area for this variety, located at an altitude of almost 900 m, where the tempranillo benefits from a slow ripening process. The first wines of Cillar de Silos were released in 1995. Since then, the winery has continued to grow in quality and recognition.

Dominio del Pidio is the second winery that the family has established, exclusively dedicated to the production of village wines. This winery debuted with the 2014 vintage and only produces grapes from Quintana del Pidio, while Cillar de Silos also works with vineyards from nearby villages, such as Gumiel de Mercado.
