General Information

In less than a decade, Dominio de Es has become one of the most interesting wineries in the Soria region of the Ribera del Duero. Under the direction of Frenchman Bertrand Sourdais and guided by biodynamic techniques, the winery works with an enviable vineyard of old vines of tinto fino (tempranillo) and albillo, planted on ungrafted rootstock at an altitude of 1000 meters. With these grapes, they produce exceptional wines such as Dominio de Es Viñas Viejas de Soria 2022, an intense and juicy red wine of limited production, aged for 18 months in French oak barrels.

“The vigneron of the lands of Soria.” This is the self-chosen introduction of Bertrand Sourdais, the mastermind behind Dominio de Es. Belonging to a family with a long winemaking tradition, the Frenchman arrived in this area of the Ribera del Duero in 1999, where he co-founded Dominio de Atauta with Miguel Sánchez, serving as its technical director until 2010. Struck by the unparalleled richness of the Soria terroir, of which he is one of the staunchest advocates, Sourdais now pours his expertise into Dominio de Es and the creation of wines like Dominio de Es Viñas Viejas de Soria 2022. A refined red wine with balanced acidity, it is the ideal choice, especially to pair with meats such as roasted pork, grilled rabbit, or stewed chicken.

Tasting notes

With a high layer and fine tears, it displays a cherry red color with violet edges to the eye.

On the nose, it stands out with aromas of forest fruits, red fruits (currants or raspberries), soft notes of vanilla, and very subtle spices.

On the palate, it is intense and juicy, with red fruits such as strawberries and raspberries taking center stage and some spicy notes in the background.

Founded in 2011, in San Esteban de Gormaz, Dominio de Es is a young winery born from the passion of the Frenchman Bertrand Sourdais for the lands of Soria and their excellent potential for crafting great wines.

The old pre-phylloxera vines, owned by the winery under the D.O. Ribera del Duero, are distributed across a total of four plots (Llanos del Almendro, La Mata, Valdegatiles, and Camino Olmillos), located at an altitude of 1000 meters. The area's climate, along with the characteristics of a terroir with clayey, porous soils, mixed with limestone and sands from the Duero, fosters wines of very limited production and excellent quality.
