Coudoulet de Beaucastel Rouge 2020 is the younger sibling of Château de Beaucastel, sourced from vineyards with a composition similar to the renowned Châteauneuf-du-Pape. This sensational coupage of Garnacha, Monastrell, Syrah, and Cinsault is a fruity red wine, with a very spiced and creamy profile thanks to low-intervention viticulture. Undoubtedly, one of the best wines from Côtes du Rhône.

General Information

The 30 hectares of Coudoulet feature a soil composed of marine molasse deposits. These pebbles are identical to those found in the vineyards of the prestigious Châteauneuf-du-page and play a fundamental role in the quality of the grapes. Here is where Coudoulet de Beaucastel Rouge 2020 is born, a sublime red wine from Côtes du Rhône made from Grenache, Mourvèdre, Syrah, and Cinsault. Each of these varieties is harvested manually and separately, then sorted at the winery. The harvest is heated to 80ºC and then cooled to extract color without extracting tannins. Afterward, the different varieties are blended following malolactic fermentation, and the wine is aged in oak foudres for 6 months.

The Perrin family encompasses a significant number of appellations in the Southern Rhône. The winery was founded in 1909 at the legendary Château de Beaucastel. Now, a century later, it is the members of the fifth generation who lead the firm. The philosophy of the winery is to allow each grape variety to express its personality and the character of the soil where it is planted.

Coudoulet de Beaucastel Rouge 2020, dominated by Grenache and Mourvèdre, is a mature and rounded red wine that is ideal for pairing with any dish featuring poultry, game, cured meats, rice dishes, or grilled red meats.

Tasting notes

Beautiful ruby red color with bright reflections.

Dominated by monastrell, this red wine is mature with aromas of wild strawberries, spices, thyme, leather, and tobacco.

On the palate, it is elegantly tannic and spicy, with aromatic hints of sour cherries and scrubland. Decanting enhances the spicy tones. Finish with good length.

The winery

Château de Beaucastel, managed by the Perrin family, boasts 100 hectares of vineyards in an exceptional 'terroir', located at the northern edge of the Châteauneuf-du-Pape appellation (Rhône Valley). The 'terroir' is highly representative of the finest soils of Châteauneuf: pebbles on the surface and sand, clay, and limestone in the deeper layers. The vines are old and have been organically cultivated for 50 years, allowing the roots to grow exceptionally deep. Beaucastel works with all 13 grape varieties permitted in the Châteauneuf-du-Pape AOC.
