Casa de la Ermita Petit Verdot Crianza 2021 can be considered one of the best Spanish petit verdots. The Mediterranean climate, warmer and drier than in other parts of the peninsula and its original Bordeaux, makes the adaptation of this variety perfect in Jumilla.

General Information

Casa de la Ermita Petit Verdot Crianza 2021 is a wine with an overwhelming personality. Its power, intensity, and concentration make it one of the most attractive single-varietal wines produced in our country with this grape of French origin.

The leading Murcian winery Casa de la Ermita meticulously crafts this red wine from clusters of very small and loose grapes, selected at their optimal ripeness from vineyards planted at 700 meters above sea level, in mountainous and dry soils of the El Carche mountain range. For its vinification, the fruits were cold-macerated during the first days of fermentation, which lasted 15 days at 26-28 ºC. After this, the wine was transferred to barrels, where it underwent malolactic fermentation. The process concluded with 12 months of aging in French oak barrels.

Aromatic and balanced, Casa de la Ermita Petit Verdot Crianza 2021 manages to satisfy both inexperienced palates and the most demanding ones. This achievement is also shared by the rest of the wines from the winery, founded in 1999, in Jumilla. The unique terroir where its vineyard is located, the traditional farming practices it employs, and the latest technology applied to production in the winery are the keys to its success.

Tasting notes

Casa de la Ermita Petit Verdot Crianza displays a vivid and deep purple color, with violet hues.

On the nose, it stands out for its aromas of ripe fruit (plum and blackberries), cedar, and a slight floral touch.

Smooth entry on the palate. Rounded, fresh, strong, and complex tannic structure. Slightly bitter finish (characteristic of the variety). Long and intense aftertaste.

The winery

Casa de la Ermita
In the Sierra de El Carche, a protected regional park where the highest mountains of Murcia are located, lie the vineyards and winery of Casa de la Ermita, a family-owned estate founded in 1999.

The combination of traditional agriculture, a long-standing activity of the owning family, with modernity and the latest technology in service of winemaking, forms the two pillars upon which Casa de la Ermita is built. All of this is supported by an unbeatable starting point: an excellent quality raw material, born from its 100 hectares of vineyards.

The queen grape of the D.O. Jumilla, monastrell, is skillfully crafted by Casa de la Ermita, but the family winery also prides itself on having successfully adapted and utilized other prestigious international varieties such as petit verdot, merlot, syrah, and cabernet sauvignon.
