The petit verdot, originally from Bordeaux, finds a more favorable environment in warm climates than in its native land. In Jumilla, where the sun shines generously throughout the year, this variety reaches optimal ripeness. Here is born Casa de la Ermita Petit Verdot 2022, one of the most outstanding representatives of this grape in the Spanish wine scene. This red wine represents the most refined and personal expression of Casa de la Ermita, a winery that has established itself as a benchmark of the D.O. Jumilla. With 12 months of aging in French oak, the wine reveals the tannic structure typical of the variety, balanced by a wonderful freshness and smoothness on the palate. An essential choice to discover the potential of petit verdot when it achieves its perfect ripeness and is vinified with mastery.

Casa de la Ermita Petit Verdot 2022 is undoubtedly one of the best single-varietal wines of this grape variety in Spain. A red wine that showcases the excellent adaptation of the petit verdot grape to the D.O. Jumilla. With 12 months of aging in French oak barrels, it displays exceptional maturity, allowing the black fruits to shine without the wood overshadowing them.
The D.O. Jumilla boasts the highest number of sunshine hours in Spain—more than 3000 annually—an essential attribute for sustainable and organic farming, something well understood by the García family, the people behind Casa de la Ermita. This winery, founded in 1999, is located in the heart of the Protected Regional Park of El Carche, at 700 meters above sea level, near the highest peaks of the Murcia region.
Casa de la Ermita was the first winery in Jumilla to achieve legal recognition for its organic farming. It has 100 hectares of vineyards where the native monastrell grape reigns supreme, but it also accommodates other prestigious international varieties such as petit verdot, merlot, syrah, and cabernet sauvignon. In fact, the Murcian winery has an experimental garden where they evaluate dozens of prestigious varieties to determine if their adaptation to this Mediterranean region is as successful as that of petit verdot.
Casa de la Ermita Petit Verdot 2022 (D.O. Jumilla) is perfect for pairing with oxtail or a pepper-crusted entrecôte.
Deep and vivid purple color, with violet hues.
Aromas on the nose of cedar, plum, and ripe blackberries, with a slight floral sensation.
On the palate, the first sensation is smooth, followed by a rounded, fresh, strong, and complex tannic structure. Light final bitterness, characteristic of the variety, with a long and intense aftertaste.
