General Information

Casa Castillo La Escarpa 2024 is a monovarietal Monastrell that stands out for its balance and personality. After fermentation, the wine is aged for 9 months in 500-liter barrels and large 5000-liter foudres, which adds complexity without losing the freshness that characterizes the vintage. The final blend was crafted hand in hand by José María Vicente and the Vinoselección technical team over several trips to Jumilla.

In the Casa Castillo vineyard, Monastrell is cultivated in poor, stony soils that enhance concentration and finesse. The altitude and the influence of cool currents allow for grapes with natural acidity, balancing the Mediterranean power and resulting in vibrant wines full of nuances.

Casa Castillo, founded in 1991 and currently led by José María Vicente, has established itself as a key reference in Jumilla thanks to its commitment to authenticity and minimal intervention. Its philosophy is based on respecting the character of the terroir and local varieties, with sustainable practices and aging processes that enhance the purity of the fruit. Today, its wines are internationally recognized for their elegance and personality.

Casa Castillo La Escarpa 2024 pairs perfectly with rabbit rice and roasted lamb.

The winery

Propiedad Vitícola Casa Castillo

Casa Castillo (1991) is a family-owned 'boutique' winery committed to the terroir and estate wines. In the early nineties, José María Vicente decided to take the leap into winemaking, relying on the vineyards of the estate his grandfather had purchased in the 1940s.

The estate is located on the high plateau of Jumilla, on slopes reaching up to 760 meters in altitude, sheltered by the Sierra del Molar. Already in the 1980s, José María and his father Nemesio initiated a restructuring of the vineyard. After the renovation of the old winery on the estate, the first wines were launched on the market in 1993.

Casa Castillo was one of the pioneers in recognizing the potential of the monastrell grape for producing high-quality wines. Today, it is a benchmark winery for quality, not only in the D.O. Jumilla but also on a national level. Its prestige is largely based on the preservation of those old dry-farmed monastrell vineyards, many of which are planted on their own rootstock.
