General Information

Carlos Serres 125 Aniversario 2024 is a commemorative wine made with a ‘coupage’ of 85% viura and 15% tempranillo blanco. Viura, considered the traditional queen of Rioja whites, brings freshness and elegance. On the other hand, tempranillo blanco—a native, minority, and exclusive variety of the D.O.Ca. Rioja—comes from a natural mutation of tempranillo discovered in 1988 and offers wines with intense fruity and floral aromas.

All the grapes come from vineyards located around Haro, with an average age of between 10 and 20 years. The harvest was carried out manually. After a brief cold maceration of the whole grapes, the free-run juice fermented for 15 days at a controlled temperature (between 12 and 15º C) to preserve the varietal expression as much as possible. The wine remained on its lees in the tank for 3 months, which adds complexity and volume on the palate.

The Carlos Serres winery is named after its founder, a renowned wine consultant born in Orleans, who was a pioneer in settling in Rioja after the arrival of phylloxera in France. Amazed by the winemaking conditions offered by Rioja, he founded his own winery in the Barrio de la Estación in Haro in 1896. From there, he became a forerunner in aging wines following the Bordeaux model. He also stood out as a pioneer in exporting Rioja wine. In 2000, the Vivanco family acquired 100% of Bodegas Carlos Serres. The new owners drove a renewal in the style of the wines.

Carlos Serres wines are made with grapes from the El Estanque estate, which covers 60 hectares and is located in Haro (La Rioja), just like the winery. The estate's clay-limestone soils with gravel presence favor the cultivation of traditional varieties.

Carlos Serres 125 Aniversario 2024 (D.O.Ca. Rioja) pairs well with fish such as salt-crusted sea bass or steamed mussels.

Tasting notes

Pale and bright yellow color.

Fresh aromas of apple and pineapple, with subtle hints of white flowers.

On the palate, it is fresh, very fruity with a great balance between acidity and fruit, and a long, pleasant persistence.

The winery

Bodegas Carlos Serres

The historic winery Carlos Serres is named after its founder, a renowned wine consultant born in Orleans, who was a pioneer in settling in Rioja after the arrival of phylloxera in France. Amazed by the winemaking conditions offered by Rioja, Carlos Serres founded his own winery in the Barrio de la Estación of Haro in 1896. From there, he became a precursor of wine aging following the Bordeaux model. He also stood out as a pioneer in the export of Rioja wine. In the year 2000, the Vivanco family acquired 100% of Bodegas Carlos Serres, leading to a significant renewal of the winery's wines and the construction of new facilities in the municipality of Haro, but outside the Barrio de la Estación.

The wines of Carlos Serres are made with grapes from the El Estanque estate, which spans 60 hectares and is located in Haro (La Rioja), as is the winery itself. The soils of the estate, clay-limestone with the presence of gravel, are ideal for cultivating traditional grape varieties. The winery is committed to using concrete tanks for winemaking, aiming to maximize the fruity expression of each variety (the porosity of concrete allows for micro-oxygenation).

In July 2020, Bodegas Carlos Serres achieved the Wineries for Climate Protection certification. This seal recognizes the commitment to sustainability and environmental care, currently held by only 27 wineries in Spain.
