Graciano is a variety that not everyone dares to make wine from because it has its complications, but it produces extremely lively wines when the grapes are perfectly ripe, as in this case. Burgo Viejo Graciano 2023 comes from organic vineyards planted with this variety under the D.O.Ca. Rioja. It’s a great way to savour the uniqueness of Graciano, a traditional Rioja grape.

General Information

Burgo Viejo Graciano 2023 is a single-varietal wine made from organically farmed Graciano grapes. The grapes were stemmed and gently pressed. Fermentation took place in stainless steel vats at a controlled temperature and malolactic fermentation in concrete vats. The result is a red with intense aromas and predominant notes of blackberry and underbrush. Slightly sweet, silky smooth, fresh and long on the palate.

Burgo Viejo is an innovative and curious winery that started out in 1987 when five grape-growing families of Alfaro teamed up. It uses its owners’ vineyards, which span more than 200 hectares, and only purchases very select batches from a few local grape growers. These ingredients go into making wines that reflect the identity of this terroir.

The firm’s broad product range includes experimental wines produced in small quantities and single-varietals and it uses 500-litre barrels, amphoras, etc. It’s also committed to organic production and is preparing to launch in the near future its ‘single-vineyard’ wines, the top category of the D.O.Ca. Rioja.

Burgo Viejo Graciano 2023 (D.O.Ca. Rioja) goes marvellously with stuffed turkey or stewed beef cheeks.
