Blau Verd 2021 is an organic red wine obtained from excellent cariñena vineyards, planted on clay soils, and garnacha vineyards cultivated on slate soils. These 40-year-old vines, located in the town of El Molar in Tarragona, produce grapes of great purity and concentration that are vinified under the technical direction of Nuria López.
Cellers Can Blau originated in 2003 and is one of the first initiatives of the Gil family outside of Jumilla. Located in the town of El Molar, within the D.O. Montsant, the winery has 35 hectares of its own vineyards distributed in different plots with a diversity of soils, orientations, and altitudes. In this heterogeneous terroir, they mainly cultivate vines of the native varieties cariñena and garnacha and vines of the French-origin variety syrah.
Blau Verd 2021 exemplifies the potential of the D.O. Montsant, one of the most thriving areas in the Spanish wine scene. It is a wine produced under the organic regulations established in the European Union and the USA. Pair it with all kinds of rice dishes, noodles, vegetables, stewed meat, pork sausages, marinated red and white meat in sauce, or soft and semi-cured cheeses.
Blau Verd boasts a bright ruby color, elegant and mature with flashes of dark cherry red. On the nose, it reveals aromas of cardamom and raspberry, notes of red tea, and a licorice background. This medium-bodied wine shows great balance with moderate and refined tannins, combined with a hint of acidity supported by notes of kirsch in a savory finish.
Part of the Juan Gil Family Estates group, Cellers Can Blau began its journey in 2003, becoming one of the first initiatives developed by the legendary Gil winemaking family outside their native Jumilla. Located in El Molar and part of the D.O. Montsant, the winery's philosophy focuses on working with the best vineyards in the region, predominantly indigenous. The technical direction of the winery is led by Nuria López Sarroca.
