Áster Crianza 2020 is crafted with tinta del país (tempranillo) grapes from the Fuentecojo, La Cueva, and Otero Joven plots surrounding the winery in Anguix (Burgos), located at an altitude of 780 m. Manual harvesting in 20 kg boxes, selecting the best bunches in the vineyard. In the winery, the fruits undergo a new selection.
After gentle destemming and crushing, the grapes were transferred to tanks where alcoholic fermentation took place at 28º C. Then, malolactic fermentation occurred in French oak barrels. Finally, it aged for 16 months in new French oak barrels (75%) and the rest in French oak barrels of two wines.
In its expansion plan, La Rioja Alta S.A. decided to focus on the D.O. Ribera del Duero by creating Bodegas y Viñedos Áster in the year 2000. For this project, the company combined the desire to achieve oenological excellence with the philosophy of using only their own grapes to produce estate wines. Today, Áster has 95 hectares of vineyard of the tinto fino (tempranillo) variety located between Anguix and La Horra (Burgos), in one of the best areas of the D.O. Ribera del Duero.
Áster Crianza 2020 is a wine under the D.O. Ribera del Duero, ideal for pairing with appetizers, vegetables, and rice dishes. It also harmonizes with poultry and feathered game, fish stews, roast lamb and suckling lamb, and aged cheeses.
Intense garnet color with cherry red edges, high layer, bright. On the nose, notes of undergrowth and black fruits stand out: currant, blackberry, blueberry jam, rounded with a background of mocha, pastry and spices: black pepper, licorice, and clove. Balanced, vibrant, and fresh on the palate, with fine and pleasant tannins, typical of these Ribera del Duero wines. The finish is fresh, with energy, rounded with great final smoothness. An elegant wine, with notable balance and outstanding aging potential.
In the 1990s, the group La Rioja Alta decided to embark on an expansion plan that led to the founding of Bodegas y Viñedos Áster in Ribera del Duero. For this project, the company combined the desire to achieve oenological excellence with the philosophy of using only estate-owned vineyards for wine production. Precisely due to this perfectionist drive, the first wine labeled as Áster did not see the light until the year 2000, when the vines finally produced grapes of sufficient quality for its production.
In 2002, shortly after the launch of its first wine, Áster built its winery in Anguix, a facility equipped with the most modern technology. The 95 hectares of tinta del país vineyards, located between this Burgos municipality and La Horra, have now reached full maturity—most were planted in 1991—and are operating at full capacity.
