Artífice 2021 is a reflection of its terroir, a red wine that comes from different plots located in the towns of Icod de los Vinos, Garachico, and Buenavista del Norte on the island of Tenerife, and is made entirely with the listán negro grape variety. It stands out because it is vinified by plots, at different moments of the harvest. It is a surprising wine due to its aromatic intensity on the nose, its ease on entry to the palate, and its growth with each sip.

Under the premise of the winemaker Borja Pérez to work in vineyards with low yields and extremely high quality, Artífice 2021 is produced, a single-variety red wine of listán negro from different plots in the region, located in the towns of Icod de los Vinos, Garachico, and Buenavista del Norte. Vinification by plots, at different times of the harvest, due to the different locations, orientations, altitudes, and soil types, resulted in a wine that faithfully reflects its terroir of origin.
Although his family had been in the wine business in the Canary Islands for years, it was not until 2011 that Borja Pérez took the lead of this new project. Thus, with the bodega Artífice, Borja decided to focus the production of wines on the unique characteristics of the northwest of the island of Tenerife. Volcanic soils, an Atlantic climate, the trade winds, and Canary grape varieties like this listán negro are the ingredients that make up these wines, unique in the world.
In the winery, fermentation takes place in stainless steel and concrete tanks. Subsequently, aging is carried out in very used 228-liter French oak foudres and barrels, aiming to achieve the least wood impact. Artífice 2021 is a wine that will accompany all kinds of meats.
Artífice is a cherry red wine, with a medium-low layer, clean and bright.
Clean and very intense nose, it presents very marked spicy aromas, floral notes, black fruit, and a mineral background with saline touches.
On the palate, it is easy and light, with good acidity that provides freshness. As it progresses, the intensity increases, with spicy notes, fresh fruit with herbal touches, and a medium persistence finish marked by mineral notes.
Artífice originates with the aim of paying tribute to all the people from the countryside who have made agriculture their way of life, while preserving, in some way, the winemaking tradition of the Canary Islands.
Although the Pérez family has been working in the wine trade for many years, it was in 2011 when the young Borja Pérez took the lead on this project in Ycoden Daute Isora. He transitioned from being a race car mechanic and fire truck driver to leading his own winemaking project called Ignios Orígenes.
For Borja Pérez, Ignios Orígenes had to be based on the unique characteristics of the area they are in: volcanic soils, an Atlantic climate influenced by trade winds, and unique grape varieties such as the white marmajuelo and the red listán negro, baboso negro, or vijariego.
After gaining recognition with the Ignios project, the winemaker from Tenerife created different wines under the Artífice brand. With this project, he preserves old vineyards from small local growers with low production, from whom he buys the grapes. In these vineyards, a reasonable viticulture is practiced, with good advisory work for the growers and minimal intervention in the winemaking process. The aim is to craft authentic wines, enhancing native varieties and always respecting the fruit.
In his winemaking approach, Borja Pérez does not reject technological innovations; he simply emphasizes that they should be used when necessary, but never to alter the wine's style. Pérez oversees all processes of winemaking, from working in the field to the sale of the final product.
