Zuazo Gastón Reserva 2020, mainly made with tempranillo and a touch of graciano, comes from the oldest and most valuable vineyards of the estate. After 20 months of aging in French oak barrels and an additional 18 months of resting in the bottle, the wine reaches its full expression: elegant, silky, full-bodied, and with a persistence that leaves a lasting impression.
The winery Zuazo Gastón has successfully combined its local roots with an international projection. Its wines, recognized in prestigious competitions worldwide, reflect the expertise of a family that pays attention to every detail, from the vine to the glass. Their vineyards are located around the historic village of Oyón. These plots, of varying ages and characteristics, host a diversity of varieties such as graciano, mazuelo, and viura, although tempranillo stands out strongly as the main variety.
Each vineyard has been planted and cared for with great dedication, respecting the natural balance of the environment and adapting to the specificities of each terrain. The average yield, carefully controlled at around 4,000 kilograms per hectare, not only ensures a balanced production but also guarantees optimal quality in every harvest. This rigorous approach to vineyard management is key to obtaining grapes with great concentration and character, the fundamental basis for crafting wines with a distinct identity.
Zuazo Gastón Reserva 2020 is a modern-style red wine that respects tradition while expressing itself with freshness and complexity. It is balanced, with notes of ripe fruit, spices, and well-integrated wood. Ideal to pair with dishes like Beef Wellington or grilled Iberian pork shoulder.
Zuazo Gastón are two surnames closely linked to the viticulture of Oyón, one of the key locations to understand the prestige enjoyed by the wines of Rioja Alavesa worldwide. Although their winemaking origins date back to 1850, it was not until the mid-20th century that Mariano Zuazo, together with Victoriano Gastón and several local winegrowers, founded a cooperative that would eventually become the seed for the creation of Bodegas y Viñedos Zuazo Gastón in 2001. Today, the winery has 52 hectares of its own vineyards (plus another 48 hectares leased), a production capacity of nearly one and a half million liters, and a barrel park with 2,000 units.
